Lanzarote World Cup

End of competition

It's the end of competition here in Lanzarote, Spain. We completed another single elimination on the 5th day of competition, but because today there is no wind to run the double that elimination will not count. So my final result is 13th, my highest world cup result yet.

Tomorrow I am going to Fuerteventura to stay there for a few weeks before the competition. I'll be training with Jakub Kosmowski with a plan to improve on our results from Lanzarote.

Lanzarote World Cup

Day 3 and 4

The last two days we completed competing in the 2nd double elimination. It started off with the single elimination on Wednesday being held in light wind conditions. For me it was a bad start as I lost the first heat against Kevin Mevissen from Holland. It was the end of the day for me.

The first start on Thursday was set for 11am but we didnt get around to starting until noon. The wind was good for my 5.0 and 88. My first heat was against Austrian Michi Rossmeier in which I sailed really well and advanced into the next round. My following heat was vs. Quincy Offringa from Aruba. I made the mistake of changing down to my 4.6 after sailing a really good heat on my 5.0, and ended up sailing the heat underpowered. I knew I lost the heat before coming back to the beach, especially when Quincy was stoked telling me he thinks he sailed the best heat of his life.

So far I am pretty consistent at finishing 13th at the end of a double elimination. We have 2 days remaining for the event and will probably finish one more double elimination.

Lanzarote World Cup

Day 2

We completed the first double elimination of the event today. Things started off well when I sailed a solid heat vs. Rafael Cervero from Spain, but in the next round my opponent was Taty Frans from Bonaire. I tried some riskier moves in that heat to have a chance at advancing but in the end Taty took it.

After the first double elimination I am sitting in 13th position. The plan is to run at least another 2 double eliminations in the next 4 days. The scores from all those are added together to determine the final results.

Lanzarote World Cup

Day 1

Today was registration in the morning and we started competition at 3 in the afternoon. We completed the first single elimination. My first round draw was vs Jakub Kosmowski from Poland. I sailed a good heat landing moves such as double flaka, shaka diablo and a toad. I advanced to sail vs. 2006 world champion Gollito Estredo but didnt sail quite as well and lost that heat. Tomorrow the competition will continue with a double elimination where I will try and move up in the ranking some more.

Lanzarote

Warming up

I arrived in Lanzarote, Spain, a week early for the event and was greeted by two days of wind for my 5.0. There are still 3 days of sailing before the first day of the competition, and everybody else is slowly showing up and practicing the new moves. During the event I will post up more frequent updates as to what is going on. Keep an eye on the site&

East Coast Trip

Getting ready for Spain

I just returned from a trip to the Canadian Maritimes and North-Eastern United States. I had a great time sailing and touring with my brothers and two friends. I am now packing up for my trip to the Canary Islands where I will spend 5 weeks. I will be competing at the Lanzarote World Cup from the 23rd to the 28th of June as well as the Fuerteventura World Cup from the 23rd to 28th of July.
